As someone who’s been in an abusive relationship this story was triggering at times, but that also meant that I really connected with our heroine and how difficult it can be to go against the status quo and take charge of your own life no matter the consequences. This was a beautiful story about resilience and bravery and I loved connecting with the culture of India which I am not too familiar with. A powerful read!
This is a book about a Punjabi girl from India got married to a Punjabi boy from US. When she came here he started abusing her badly. Finally, she escaped. I highly recommend to read this because this is what happens when girl from foreign countries marries to foreigners.
Whispers Beneath the Waves by A.S. Pardesi follows a young woman’s search for self-discovery while navigating the pitfalls of a tumultuous marriage. Savitri is a young woman who has recently moved from her parents’ loving home in Punjab, India, to the coastal town of Danby, Massachusetts, USA. Her husband, Ajay, an engineer, promised her the life of her dreams in America. However, Savitri’s dreams shatter into a thousand pieces once she discovers the abusive and manipulative side of Ajay. After a particularly violent episode, Savitri leaves her home in the middle of the night and reaches out to her friend, Emily. Emily provides Savitri with sanctuary in her home and introduces her friend to her art studio. Her friendship helps Savitri find herself in her art. But now, Ajay is plotting revenge.
